Reflection about Richmond Public Library

What?

On November 29th, 2011 we visited the Richmond Public Library. It was the second time. At the beginning Mabel and I arrived first and met with the Principle of the Library. She was so polite  open us the door. Eleven-though, we wanted wait for Audrey and the rest of classmates. They offered a great variety of desserts  such as apple and nut  pies,  and cakes which my favorite was the carrot cake.Furthermore they offered beverages.

So what?

In this opportunity I had the proud to work for second time with my classmate Anoud. She is from Saudi Arabia. She  introduced us her king,  how is the education different in some cities and the extraordinary structure of the universities. In one hand  for our surprise in the audience was an American who had worked in Saudi Arabia specifically at the airport. He shared some anecdotes and showed us a Saudi currency bill.Furthermore his experience made an Arabic atmosphere where they exchanged ideas. On the other hand was the woman who made possible our visited at the Richmond Public Library. She originally is from Japan and  the principal library. At the end of Anoud’s presentation arrived a couple  from the Richmond on line newspaper. Jc ( whom allowed that we called him like Jc) and Rosebella she works at the advertisement area.

During my presentation I discussed a great variety of topic. I felt that  arts and history were their audience favorite favorite theme. Different as the last time were Health care and Education systems. They really got a hook on The Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela calls Simon Bolivar and a Patriotic singer. In this opportunity I noticed that our audience enjoy when we shared some real examples, connected  with America like a revolutionary military Francisco de Miranda who fought at the American and French Revolution (it helps them to remember the information), compare and contrast them and some iniversal information such the highest mountains, oldest rock etc. At the first time Anoud and I made a compare and contras between her country and mine.Likewise with the United States.

After our fist presentation we ate the desserts and Jc gave me his card to send him the information about the Symphonic Orchestra of Venezuela and the singer. When they left we joined with Yabin (my classmate from china) team whom audience was John an America whose favorite hobbies are go to the restaurant and  eat different kinds of food. By the way we made a plan to eat together next week. He went to Ireland and shred his most excited experience. We talked about our Chinese project and shared a fun anecdote previously to eject out Chinese project.  Our conversations were fluently naturally even when John spoke fats I think rather than an presentation I felt like a university team just talking about  our hobbies and telling some experiences related with the topics which helped us to feel more confidence and follow the conversation.

Now what?

I think we should imagine that we are talking with our friends, but using academics words therefore it will increase knowledge.Continue to make the compare and contrats and give them some real examples and connections (it would be with the United States, Visual, bring some music or videos)   then they will remember the presenation.

R e F L E c T i O n (World Studies)

 What?

Have you ever read an  for a while and think what important is to listen different opinion? not matter how silly or illogical they seems to be. Here we go, during the two times that  I’ve gone to the World Studies we’ve discussed some relevant  topics such as Abortion, allow marriage between  the same sex, health care and the race discrimination. The two opportunities I’ve sat with two  Americans students in the first opportunity. We talked about the abortion and the right of gay or lesbian as a couple adopt children. While in the second we went into the new law of Health Care insurances.Something that I would see in general is that students got so exciting when they talked about Health Care Insurances.

So What?

In my first meeting  with the World Studies I admitted  that we did not create an debate atmosphere. However, we got some conclusions about the abortion and the right for lesbians and gays to adopt children as a couple. First at all  about abortion we said everyone has to think first before take any decision and be responsible for their acts. Moreover to adopt the lesbians and gays adopt children we said that whether they have all the  requirements they will be able to adopt and if it necessary some visit  from the the social workers.During my second meeting it was so exciting. My partners expressed their opinion with honestly.Otherwise they point out some solutions to them. Also helped me to have some solid ideas to participate in my debate about the Health Care Insurance New Law.

Now What?

About my speaking I did not feel so comfortable, I think I had to enriched my vocabulary moreover  my listened perhaps I miss something, but thanks God I understood, and I could ask them some doubts that I had. However, I’m going to make some deep researchers about the Health Care insurance New Law to ask them more question about it.I think they can give me a really important pictures based on their experiences lived in the United States.
